A brand-new bus route connecting Rhyl, Denbigh, Ruthin, and Wrexham has officially launched today, making it easier than ever for communities across North Wales to travel.
The TrawsCymru T51 service, operated by Arriva, replaces the former 51/X51 route and forms part of the wider Network North Wales project, designed to improve public transport across the region.
The improvements mean buses between Ruthin and Wrexham will now run every hour instead of every two hours, while a new Sunday service introduces hourly buses between Rhyl and Wrexham. Passengers will also benefit from simpler and cheaper fares, along with digital ticketing options for added convenience.
Ken Skates, Cabinet Secretary for Transport and North Wales, said he was pleased to see the changes begin: “This new TrawsCymru service is a major step towards better connectivity in North Wales. Improving public transport is vital to unlocking the region’s potential, and more frequent services like the T51 show exactly what Network North Wales is all about.”
Lee Robinson, Executive Director for Regional Transport and Integration at Transport for Wales, said the launch was an important milestone: “The T51 marks an important milestone for Network North Wales. With more frequent buses, simpler fares, and improved ticketing, we’re giving people real, everyday alternatives to the car—helping support local jobs, education, and the wider economy.”
Looking ahead, further upgrades are planned. From March 2026, the T51 will be fully integrated with rail connections and other TrawsCymru routes, with a new fleet of modern, sustainable buses introduced for greater comfort and reliability.
