Rhyl’s ‘H Bridge’ to Close for Three-Week Resurfacing Project
RHYL – Motorists in West Rhyl are being advised to plan ahead as one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks, the H Bridge, is set to close for nearly a month this spring.
Denbighshire County Council has confirmed that the bridge, which connects Marsh Road to Ffynnongroew Road, will be shut to all vehicular traffic from Tuesday, March 3, to Friday, March 27. The closure is necessary to facilitate essential road resurfacing works as part of a wider regional maintenance programme funded by the Welsh Government.
Diversion Routes and Access
While the bridge will be impassable for cars and heavy vehicles, the council has assured residents that pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the duration of the works. – Full map details here https://one.network/?tm=GB147799792
For those behind the wheel, a signposted diversion route will be in operation:
- The H Bridge and adjacent sections of Ffynnongroew Road.
- Official Diversion: Traffic will be diverted via Warren Road and surrounding arterial routes.
A “Notorious” Stretch
Known locally as the “H Bridge” due to its distinct architectural shape over the railway line, the structure has long been a talking point for local drivers. Its narrow lanes and sharp, 90-degree turns have earned it a reputation as a “notorious” bottleneck.
“Everyone in Rhyl knows how tricky that bridge can be,” says one local commuter. “It’s a pain to have it closed for three weeks, but if it means a smoother surface and fewer potholes, it’s a trade-off most of us are willing to make.”
The works are expected to be completed on schedule by late March, barring any significant weather delays. Residents are encouraged to allow extra time for their morning commutes during the first week of the closure.
