Rebuild and Bloom: Free Lego Wellbeing Sessions Coming to Rhyl Library This Autumn

This autumn, adults in Denbighshire are being invited to rediscover the joy of creativity with Rebuild and Bloom, a unique wellbeing programme that proves LEGO isn’t just for kids.

Working Denbighshire, in partnership with Barod and local LEGO artist Floss Barrett, will be delivering a series of free creative sessions designed to improve mental health, build confidence, and inspire personal growth — all through the simple but powerful act of building with LEGO.

Four Weeks of Creativity and Connection

Running every Tuesday afternoon from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, the programme starts on 16 September 2025 and runs until 7 October 2025. All sessions will be held at Rhyl Library, offering a welcoming and inclusive space for anyone aged 16 and over to take part.

Participants can attend just one session or join all four — but spaces are limited, so early booking is essential.

The Healing Power of LEGO

Leading the sessions is Floss Barrett, a specialist in LEGO Botanical Flowers whose personal story inspired the programme. Floss began her LEGO journey during a difficult chapter in her life, after a knife attack left her with severe injuries to both hands.

As part of her physical rehabilitation, she started building with LEGO to restore strength and mobility in her fingers. But what began as a form of physical therapy soon revealed deeper benefits — LEGO became a safe, creative outlet that helped her manage stress, rebuild her mental wellbeing, and find joy again.

“When I was at my lowest, LEGO gave me a place to escape,” Floss explains. “It became my safe haven — a world where I could just be me. I want others to feel that same calm, focus and creativity. LEGO helped me heal, and I truly believe it can help others too.”

Floss has since become a passionate volunteer, specialising in LEGO Botanical Flowers, and is eager to introduce others to the calm, creativity, and satisfaction this mindful hobby can bring.

Why LEGO for Wellbeing Works

The Rebuild and Bloom sessions are designed to help people:

  • Boost confidence through creative expression

  • Reduce stress with mindful, hands-on activity

  • Improve focus and patience

  • Encourage social interaction in a relaxed setting

  • Take steps towards personal development and even future employment or training opportunities

The idea is simple: when we focus on building something with our hands, we give our minds a chance to slow down, concentrate on the present moment, and create something meaningful.

Community Leaders Back the Project

Councillor Jason McLellan, Leader of Denbighshire County Council and Lead Member for Economic Growth & Tackling Deprivation, has praised the initiative:

“Supporting people to feel better, believe in themselves and explore new opportunities is at the heart of everything we do. Rebuild and Bloom is a brilliant example of how creativity and connection can inspire people to move forward.”

Inclusive, Relaxed, and Open to All

No previous LEGO experience is necessary — the sessions are suitable for beginners and enthusiasts alike. Whether you’re looking to improve your wellbeing, meet new people, or simply try something new, Rebuild and Bloom offers a friendly, supportive environment where everyone is welcome.

The sessions are free of charge, but places are limited, so booking is essential. Participants can choose to attend one, several, or all of the sessions.
