Work begins on Children’s Play Area at The Queen’s Market in Rhyl
Construction has officially begun this week on a brand-new children’s play area at Queen’s Market in Rhyl, bringing another exciting family-friendly attraction to the town centre.
The play area will be located near the side entrances, next to the Queen Street Car Park, making it easy for families to access. Work is expected to take around three weeks, after which the site will undergo testing and safety checks before opening to the public.
A Fun and Inclusive Play Space for All
Designed for children aged 0–10 and beyond, the inclusive playground will feature more than 20 different play elements and accommodate over 40 youngsters at once. From sensory and tactile play boards to interactive games, the equipment is aimed at stimulating imagination, creativity and physical development.
Keeping in line with the theme of Queen’s Market, the play area will have a playful food-and-drink design, with café and ice cream–themed equipment encouraging children to engage in role play while having fun.
Community Collaboration
Graham Boase, Chief Executive of Denbighshire County Council, described the development as:
“A fantastic example of collaboration that provides Rhyl with another inclusive play space for children to enjoy all year round at the iconic Queen’s Market. We expect construction to be completed within three weeks, followed by commissioning and safety testing. This will be another brilliant addition to the town centre.”
Designed by KOMPAN UK
The project is being delivered in partnership with KOMPAN UK, experts in outdoor play equipment. A spokesperson explained:
“We worked closely with Queen’s Market to create a play area that complements the venue’s function with a fun, café-inspired twist. Children can use their imagination to role-play as café staff or customers, while also enjoying activities that encourage climbing, crawling, and creative exploration.”
The design focuses on inclusivity, ensuring children of different abilities can take part. Play features have been created to develop motor skills, problem-solving and social interaction, making the space both fun and educational.
Another Step Forward for Rhyl’s Regeneration
The Queen’s Market redevelopment has already brought fresh energy to Rhyl, and this new play area will add even more value for families visiting the town. With more exciting developments planned, it marks another milestone in creating a vibrant, welcoming destination in North Wales.
